PRESIDENT ROBERT GLIDDEN ELECTED CHAIR
OF OHIO AEROSPACE INSTITUTE

10/8/98

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University President Robert Glidden was elected Thursday to a two-year term as chairman of the board of trustees of the Ohio Aerospace Institute in Cleveland.

Glidden succeeds David L. Burner, an Ohio University graduate, as chairman.

"OAI has an important role to play in developing cooperation and collaboration among Ohio's universities, aerospace industry, and government laboratories for advancing aerospace-related research," Glidden said. "I look forward to working with OAI President Michael Salkind, our excellent staff, and the OAI board over the next two years as chairman."

Glidden became the 19th president of Ohio University in 1994. Previously, he was at Florida State University for 15 years, first as dean of the School of Music and later as provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

Founded in 1989, OAI is a private, non-profit consortium of university, industry and government focused on the creation, application, and commercialization of aerospace-related and other advanced technologies.

Members of OAI include nine Ohio universities, NASA Lewis Research Center in Cleveland and the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton. OAI's three-story, glass-and-steel headquarters is adjacent to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and the NASA Lewis Research Center.
