ATHENS, Ohio -- A. Compton Reeves, a professor of medieval history at Ohio University, has received the highest honor bestowed by the American Branch of the Richard III Society.

Reeves was presented with the Dickon Award, commending him for his contributions to the scholarship of 15th century England and his service to the Richard III Society, at the group's annual meeting in Chicago Oct. 4-5. He currently is chairman of the society, an international educational group that encourages the study of 15th century English culture and history.

An Ohio University faculty member since 1970, Reeves is the author of "Pleasures & Pastimes in Medieval England." The book, published in 1995, surveys the art, games, sports, music, pets and other pastimes that occupied the people of England from the 13th to 16th centuries. He also is the author of "Newport Lordship 1317-1536," "Lancastrian Englishmen," "The Marcher Lords" and "Purveyors and Purveyance for the Lancastrian and Yorkist Kings."
