ATHENS, Ohio -- It's a year away and Ohio University's Marching 110 already is preparing for its trip to New York City for the 74th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The band is one of 12 bands nationwide and the only band from Ohio participating in next year's parade.
The band is beginning to raise money for the trip, according to Band Director Richard Suk.
The Ohio University Athletics Department recently donated $10,000 towards the band's trip. The gift was presented to Suk by Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh during a band practice.
"The Marching 110 and basketball pep bands have been supportive of the Ohio Bobcats and intercollegiate athletics team for a long time," Boeh said. "Their presence adds a tremendous element to every athletic venue. We thought it would be most fitting to show our appreciation to the Marching 110 and join the Ohio University community in support of their upcoming appearance at the parade."
Suk said the details of the trip have not been finalized. The band plans to leave the Wednesday before the parade and will enjoy some sightseeing during the trip.
"We are grateful to Tom Boeh and Ohio Athletics for their generous contribution," Suk said. "The band is very impressed with this level of support."
