ATHENS, Ohio -- This year's City of Athens Halloween Street Party, held Oct. 30-31, cost Ohio University nearly $100,000, according to figures announced today by Vice President for Administration Gary North.
The cost to the university included expenses for labor, materials, supplies, food, outside agencies and other expenses related to security during and clean-up after the two-day, city-sponsored party, North said.
"As of Monday, Nov. 16, costs accumulated thus far for Halloween amounts to $ 96,161," he said. "While there may be some other minor charges to come into the accounting for the weekend, we anticipate this to be a fairly accurate estimate at this time.
"I'm extremely disappointed that the university has to spend such a large amount of money for safety and security for the Halloween weekend," North continued. "I'm pleased, however, that we weren't forced to spend our budgeted amount of $110,000. Clearly, having the extra security in place minimized damage on campus, on the parking lots and around the main green."
