Boyd was presented with the Leo R. Dowling Award of Excellence for Compassion, Integrity and Leadership at the group's annual regional conference Nov. 8 through 11 in Bloomington, Ind. Named for a former director of the Office of International Services at Indiana University, the award is the highest honor bestowed by the NAFSA region that includes Ohio, Indiana and Michigan.
Boyd has served for 20 years as Ohio University's director of International Student and Faculty Services, which provides a variety of services to international students and faculty and serves as a resource to the university community on international issues.
"I was very honored to be nominated for this award," Boyd said. "Certainly many of my colleagues in the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs were deserving of the honor as well."
Boyd began his career in the international student services field in 1978 at Indiana University, where he worked in the Office of International Services. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from the College of Wooster and master's and doctoral degrees in anthropology, both from Indiana University.
