ATHENS, Ohio -- Patricia McSteen has been named assistant dean of students at Ohio University, effective July 1. She has served as interim assistant dean since July 1, 1997.

McSteen was hired after an national search that drew more than 80 candidates. She has earned three degrees from Ohio University, a bachelor of fine arts in 1989, a master of education in 1991 and a doctorate in counselor education in 1997. She has worked in the Division of Student Affairs as a graduate associate in charge of special projects and served as a resident director at Clarion University in Clarion, Pa., from 1991 to 1993.

McSteen will provide daily counseling for students, parents and others, coordinate division meetings and assist Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Joel Rudy with daily projects and programs.

Noting McSteen's skills and experience, Rudy said he looks forward to continuing his work with her.

"I expect her to make many contributions to the students, the Division of Student Affairs and the university as a whole," said Rudy, who redefined the position in the last year.
