ATHENS, Ohio -- Patrick H. DeLeon, a leading scholar on public policy issues and health care, and chief of staff for U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Inouye, will present "The Future of Health Policy" as part of the Ohio University Kennedy Lecture Series at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, at 194 Irvine Auditorium.

DeLeon, a clinical psychologist and attorney, will describe major factors that will influence public policy discussions in health care in the coming decades. He also will discuss the role of nursing, psychology, social work and mental health in public policy at the federal level.

"DeLeon has been very influential in shaping our ideas and notions on federal health care," said John McNamara, psychology professor and coordinator of DeLeon's visit to Ohio University. "He's been a leader in the psychology community in advancing new roles of research."

DeLeon won the President's Award from the American Academy of Nursing in 1997. He is the editor of Professional Psychology Research Press, and serves on numerous other psychology journal editorial boards. A member of the American Psychology Association, DeLeon holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from Purdue University.

The lecture, sponsored by the Kennedy Lecture Series and the Ohio University Psychology Department, is free and open to the public.
