ATHENS, Ohio -- Any Ohio University employee who can sing, cook or craft is encouraged to participate in the first Talent Exhibit and Benefit Auction May 22 in Nelson Commons. All benefits from the auction will be used to endow a scholarship for employees or their dependents.

Visitors can view exhibition entries from noon to 3 p.m. A reception with musical entertainment provided by several university employees will be held from 3 to 5 p.m., and the benefit auction will be from 5 to 7 p.m. President Robert Glidden will assist with the auction.

Thirty staff and faculty members have donated items, including handmade jewelry, needlepoint, quilts, wreaths, ceramics, picture frames and a handcrafted corner shelf. Six people have donated their musical talents for the reception, which will feature a gospel singer, guitar players and a bluegrass band. Several other items will be on display, but not for sale.

The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is contributing a Signature Quilt to the benefit auction. The quilt was signed by university employees for a $5 fee. The group has gathered 180 signatures and has raised a total of $900 for the scholarship fund.
