ATHENS, Ohio -- Political activist, strategist and commentator Angela "Bay" Buchanan will deliver the keynote address for the Ohio University College Republicans' Conservative Week 1998 at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Charles J. Ping Recreation Center. Her speech, titled "The Feminist Hoax," will coincide with Tuesday's theme, "Women and Minorities Day."

Buchanan is co-host of CNBC's political talk show "Equal Time," which she joined in September 1996. She is also president of The American Cause, a foundation founded by her brother, Pat. Buchanan served as the campaign chairman for both of her brother's presidential campaigns in 1992 and 1996. In the summer of 1996, George magazine recognized her as one of the nation's most important women in politics.

Buchanan began her political career as national treasurer of Ronald Reagan's presidential campaigns in 1980 and 1984. Reagan appointed her treasurer of the United States in 1981 at the age of 32, making her the youngest person ever to hold that position.

In 1988, Buchanan co-chaired the California delegation to the Republican National Convention and served as co-chair of the defense subcommittee of the platform committee. In 1990 she ran for treasurer of California.

A native of Washington, D.C., Buchanan has a master's degree in mathematics from McGill University in Montreal, Canada and has studied at several other universities, including the University of New South Wales in Australia.

Conservative Week is organized each year by the College Republicans to increase awareness of Republican issues on campus. Each day of the week has a theme. Monday is "Tax Reform Day," Tuesday, "Women and Minorities Day," Wednesday, "Education Day," Thursday, "Family Values Day," and Friday, "Ronald Reagan Day." All events are free and open to the public.
