RESIDENCE HALL CONVENIENCE STORE
PROPOSAL WITHDRAWN

05/23/97

ATHENS, Ohio -- A proposal to build a convenience store to serve Ohio University residence hall students has been withdrawn, President Robert Glidden said in a 5/23/97 letter to State Sen. Nancy Chiles Dix.

The letter says:
"Gary North, vice president for administration, has advised me that he and Mr. Robert Hynes (director of auxiliary services) have decided to cancel plans to build a free standing convenience store to serve residence hall students. Rather, we will add convenience products and expand our three existing residence hall snack shops to accommodate student needs. Not only did the proposed store location raise some local concern, but it did not fit esthetically in the campus area under consideration."
