ATHENS, Ohio -- Two ethics-related presentations covering political ethics and ethics in the workplace will take place on Ohio University's Athens campus on May 27 and 28. Both events are free and open to the public.

The political ethics debate will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 27 in Anderson Auditorium in Scripps Hall. "Preparing for the Work Place: What you need to know about ethics before you take your first job" will take place from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 28 in the Friends of the Library Room, 319 Alden Library.

Planners of the political discussion note that political ethics is a continuing hot topic among the news media, political candidates, political pundits and voters, and that critical issues continue to arise about "politics as usual" in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere.

Panelists are Professor of Political Science Mark Weinberg, Professor of Telecommunications Josep Rota, and Michael Bugeja, adviser to the president on standards. Each panelist will present his views on the pros and cons of political practices in the 1990s. The forum is sponsored by the Center for Political Communication and the Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics at Ohio University.

The Institute also is sponsoring the May 28 discussion on workplace ethics, which will include Bugeja's presentation stressing both the value of an outstanding portfolio or resume and one's ability to adapt to his or her first job. Arthur Zucker, director of the Institute for Applied and Professional Ethics, will facilitate discussion after the presentation. The event is the fourth presentation in the Institute's University and Ethics series.
