ATHENS, Ohio -- Three new Manasseh Cutler Scholars have been named for the upcoming academic year.
A total of 12 Manasseh Cutler Scholars will be studying on the Ohio University campus during the 1997-98 academic year. The Manasseh Cutler Scholars Program, a new merit scholarship program modeled after the Morehead Scholars of the University of North Carolina and the Rhodes Scholars of Oxford University, emphasizes development of recipients' leadership potential. The scholarship provides full tuition, room and board and is renewable for four years. It also includes a stipend to cover structured summer internships and travel.
Emily G. Albright, the daughter of Thomas M. and Deborah G. Albright and a senior at Westerville North High School, has been selected to receive the 1997 Paul F. and Gwyneth G. Hoff-Manasseh Cutler Scholars Award.
Paul and Gwyneth Hoff, for whom the scholarship is named, are both graduates of the College of Business. According to terms established by the Hoffs, the award is to be given to a student enrolled in the college.
Johnna L. Sloan, the daughter of Mark A. and Joan E. Sloan of Fairview Park and a senior at Rocky River High School, has been selected to receive the 1997 Lizabeth and Charles R. Emrick, Jr.-Manasseh Cutler Scholars Award.
Lizabeth and Charles Emrick, Jr., for whom the scholarship is named, are both graduates of Ohio University. Charles currently serves as chair of the Ohio University Board of Trustees. According to terms established by the Emricks, seven Cleveland high schools were invited to submit nominees for this premier scholarship.
Lewis "Pete" Richardson, the son of Lewis P. and Cheryl A. Richardson of Akron and a senior at Revere High School, has been selected to receive the 1997 Herbert and Dorothy Adler-Manasseh Cutler Scholars Award.
Herbert and Dorothy Adler, for whom this scholarship is named, served Ohio University for many years. Herbert, a graduate of the College of Business, was a trustee of the Ohio University Foundation from 1975 until his death in 1991. Dorothy stipulated the award is to be given to a student enrolled in the College of Business.
"To be considered as a Cutler Scholar, the young person must be a serious student who exhibits a moral strength of character and translates personal values into scholastic pursuits and community involvement," said Charles J. Ping, president emeritus and executive director of the Cutler Scholars Program.
Sponsors of the scholarship program may suggest guidelines for the scholarship.
