ATHENS, Ohio -- T. Lloyd Chesnut, vice president for research and graduate studies at Ohio University since 1990, has submitted his resignation effective Aug. 1 to take a position as a system vice president for the University of Montana.
President Robert Glidden said Chesnut told him Wednesday that he was taking the Montana position, then submitted a written resignation that Glidden read over the weekend.
Glidden said that Chesnut's new position in Montana will have broader responsibilities and somewhat more salary, "although I think his reason had as much to do with looking for a new challenge as anything."
Glidden said Chesnut, who is out of the country on business, agreed to finish some university projects by staying on until Aug. 1 rather than leaving June 30, the end of the fiscal year.
Chesnut joined Ohio University as an associate provost for research in 1987 from Louisiana State University, where he was associate vice chancellor of academic affairs for graduate studies and research, as well as professor of biology.
Glidden said plans for conducting a search to replace Chesnut will be discussed in the next few weeks.
