3/5/98
"I appreciate everyone's patience as these issues have been debated. We will respond in good faith to the decision of the majority in this election. We are pleased that the decision was against union representation of the clerical and technical employees of Ohio University.
"Our clerical and technical staff greatly contributes to the university's mission and climate of collegiality, responsiveness, and quality of work life. University administration will assimilate the information from the events of this past year to work closely with all of our employees."
(By a 90-vote margin, Ohio University clerical and technical employees voted Wednesday and Thursday against union representation. There were 354 votes against representation by Ohio Council 8 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), 264 votes for representation and 20 challenged ballots, an insufficient number to affect the result. There were 645 eligible voters, and 618 cast ballots.)
