News directors, editors: U.S. Secretary of Transportation Rodney E. Slater will visit Athens County Tuesday, April 6, as part of a five-day tour of transportation facilities from New York to Texas. Slater will give brief remarks on rural economic development and transportation, tour Ohio University airport facilities and participate in a forum on economic development to be aired on WOUB-TV and WOUC-TV.
Following is Slater's itinerary:
3:30 p.m. Arrive via plane at Gordon K. Bush Ohio University Airport, 10 miles south of Athens on Route 32.
3:45 p.m. Secretary Slater will make an announcement regarding the Ohio University Airport. Slater will be joined by Rep. Ted Strickland, Ohio University President Robert Glidden, Greg Bischak, senior economist for the Appalachian Regional Commission, and Federal Aviation Administration Administrator Jane Garvey.
4:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Media availability.
4:30 - 4:45 p.m. B-roll and photo opportunities during tour of Avionics Engineering Center facilities and the research laboratory on the FAA-funded DC-3 aircraft.
5:30 p.m. Videotaping of "Appalachian Access: A forum on rural economic development and transportation" with business and community leaders and students at WOUB-TV Studio A, Radio-TV Building, Ohio University.
