ATHENS, Ohio -- Six members of the Ohio University Police Department attended the 1998 Ohio Community Oriented Policing Conference in Columbus Dec. 14-16.

Department members presented a workshop about the services and programs the department provides to the community. Programs discussed included: the hiring and training of new department members; the Communication And Law Enforcement Links (CALL) program that pairs individual officers and individual residence halls together; the RAD (Rape Aggression Defense) program; a bike program to raise money for the Special Olympics; and a program to curb underage drinking.

Other presenters included police departments and non-profit crime organizations involved in state and national law enforcement.

The conference was sponsored by the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police, the Ohio Crime Prevention Association, the Buckeye Sheriffs Association and the Governor's Office of Criminal Justice.

Department members attending were Associate Director Brenda Noftz, Assistant Director Mark Mathews, and officers Wes Clark, Mike Trout, Eric Hoskinson and Brian Kapple.
