ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University's "Wired for Books" World Wide Web site has been selected as a Yahoo! "Daily Pick," a PBS Online Station Link for exemplary Web content and a 1999 Streamers WebSage Nominee for best educational use of streaming media.

With funding from the Ohio Humanities Council, the site was founded in 1997 and features poetry, prose and literary discussions that WWW browsers can listen to using RealNetworks technology, according to David Kurz, online coordinator for the Telecommunications Center, who oversees the site.

"Wired for Books" is one of five educational sites nominated for the Streamers award, which honors Web sites for creative use of audio and video on the Web.

"We are in great company with Web sites from Johns Hopkins, Yellowstone National Park, Imagine Radio and others," Kurz said. "The fun thing about the contest is anyone can go to the various sites and cast their vote for their favorite site."
