STUDENT AFFAIRS AND DEAN OF STUDENTS

6/22/98
Contact: Terry Hogan, Ohio University, (740) 593-4028

ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University President Robert Glidden has announced interim appointments for vice president for student affairs and dean of students. Michael Sostarich, associate vice president for student affairs, will serve as interim vice president and Terry Hogan, associate dean of students, will serve as interim dean.

The appointments follow an announcement that Joel Rudy, vice president for student affairs since 1995 and dean of students since 1982, will retire from the university June 30. Rudy, who came to Ohio University in 1976, has accepted a position as executive director of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity headquartered in Oxford, Ohio.

"Both Mike and Terry have long, successful experience at Ohio University," Glidden said. "They enjoy the confidence of both students and staff, and I feel very grateful that we have such outstanding people in place to assume Vice President Rudy's responsibilities."

Sostarich came to Ohio University 27 years ago and has served as associate vice president for student affairs, assistant vice president for student affairs and director of Baker Center. Hogan came to the university in 1979 and has served as associate and assistant dean of students, director of student activities and director of the Center for Community Service.

The appointments are effective until a new vice president for student affairs assumes the position, Glidden said. A search committee will be appointed in July for the national search.
