OHIO UNIVERSITY HONOR SOCIETY NAMES NEW MEMBERS

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University chapter of Phi Kappa Phi initiated 250 new members during its 42nd annual Initiation Ceremony May 3 in Irvine Auditorium. The ceremony was held during the university's Mom's Weekend.

Phi Kappa Phi, founded in 1897, is a national scholastic honor society headquartered at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Ohio University's chapter is one of 276 active chapters at colleges and universities throughout the United States, Puerto Rico and the Phillippines.

To be eligible for induction, undergraduate seniors must rank in the upper 8 percent of their graduating class and have at least a 3.7 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Undergrads in the final quarter of their junior year who rank in the top 5 percent of their class and carry at least a 3.8 GPA also are eligible.

Selection is limited to the top 10 percent of graduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.8. College of Osteopathic Medicine candidates are required to have a 3.67 cumulative GPA.
