ATHENS, Ohio -- Three faculty members within Ohio University's College of Communication have been appointed to new positions.

Hans Kruse, associate professor of communication systems management, has been appointed to a three-year term as director of the J. Warren McClure School of Communication Systems Management. Kruse, who has taught at Ohio University for six years, will assume his new role Sept. 1. As director, he will continue to teach and advise students and engage in scholarly research.

Kruse will replace Phyllis Bernt, who has accepted a half-time, three-year appointment as associate dean for the College of Communication. Bernt, who has served as director of the school since joining the Ohio University faculty in 1989, will assume her new role July 1. As associate dean of the college, she will focus on fiscal management and planning, new initiatives within the college and space management.

Professor of Journalism Pat Washburn, assistant director and graduate coordinator for the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, was appointed to a three-year term as director of graduate programs for the College of Communication. Washburn has served as special assistant to the dean for graduate programs during the past academic year. As director of graduate programs, a position he assumes July 1, his primary responsibilities will be administration of the college's graduate program, including the development and maintenance of the overseas programs.
