ATHENS, Ohio -- Franklin B. Carver, interim director of the School of Health Sciences and coordinator of the Environmental Health Science Program at Ohio University, has been awarded the 1997 Davis Calvin Wagner Award from the American Academy of Sanitarians.
Established in 1980, the award is the academy's highest honor for outstanding professional work, accomplishments and contributions to the sanitarian profession.
Carver has more than 23 years of experience in the environmental health field. He is an environmental health officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves, holding the rank of commander. As a result of being selected Campus Liaison Officer of the Year for recruitment of health professionals into the Navy, Carver has been invited to the White House and honored by President Clinton. Carver is also an active member of the National Environmental Health Association and the American Public Health Association, and serves as technical editor for the Journal of Environmental Health. He is on the board of directors for the American Academy of Sanitarians.
The $500 Wagner Award includes an engraved plaque and $250 in travel expenses for attending the academy luncheon and award ceremony in Washington, D.C. June 30.
