ATHENS, Ohio--Carol Blum, associate vice president for research and graduate studies, has been appointed interim vice president for research and graduate studies by President Robert Glidden. Blum's appointment follows the resignation of Vice President T. Lloyd Chesnut, who has accepted a position at the University of Montana.
"Dr. Blum has a strong commitment to excellence in both research and graduate studies, and I am grateful to her for agreeing to accept this assignment," Glidden said. "Her detailed knowledge of the office and of the campus will ensure that we continue to make progress in these areas during the year ahead. Both Provost Brehm and I look forward to working with her."
Blum received a Ph.D. in history from the University of Cincinnati, and her own research focuses on the roles played by American women in community development. Before becoming assistant vice president for research and graduate studies at Ohio University in 1991, Blum was director of graduate and special programs at the Ohio Board of Regents.
"I look forward to working with the faculty and staff to maintain our research and scholarly momentum during this transition," Blum said.
Blum's appointment will begin Aug. 1, 1997. A national search for a new vice president will be conducted, but a search committee has not yet been formed.
