ATHENS, Ohio -- State Sen. Nancy Chiles Dix has been appointed co-chair of the Ohio University's Institute for Local Government Administration and Rural Development's (ILGARD) advisory committee. Rep. John Carey has joined the committee.

The advisory committee includes 25 public and private sector leaders who provide consultation on technical projects and long-term planning guidance to ILGARD. Dix has been a committee member since her election to the Senate in 1994. She will share co-chair responsibilities with state Rep. Tom Johnson.

"ILGARD is a great way to show how universities can help provide expertise to local communities to research and solve problems," said Dix.

Mark Weinberg, director of ILGARD, noted that Dix will help ILGARD meet its regional and state mission.

"She is a big supporter of the need for applied research and technical assistance for our region," he said.

Carey, a graduate of Ohio University, said, "I'm pleased to be on the ILGARD board because I know of the good work they do."
