DANIELS NAMED ASSOCIATE PROVOST FOR
SPACE AND PLANNING

7/31/97

ATHENS, Ohio -- Tom Daniels has been appointed associate provost for space and planning at Ohio University, according to Provost Sharon S. Brehm. Daniels originally was appointed as a part-time assistant provost in 1996, reporting to both the provost and vice president for administration.

"Dr. Daniels has performed extremely well in this new position and is helping Vice President Gary North and me address the many space needs on the Athens campus more effectively and more systematically," Brehm said. "We felt it would be appropriate to make this a full-time position."

Daniels, 46, a professor of interpersonal communication and former associate dean in the College of Communication, also has been appointed interim associate provost for information and instructional technology while a national search is conducted to replace Paul Gandel. Gandel has accepted a position at the University of Rhode Island.

Brehm said she hopes the search for Gandel's replacement will be completed during Winter quarter.

"Dr. Daniels has indicated he will serve in the interim position for as long as necessary, and I know that he will be able to ensure that we continue to make progress in the use of information."
