ATHENS, Ohio -- Gary D. Meyer of Elkhorn, Neb., has been named Assistant Vice President for Economic and Technology Development at Ohio University. Meyer replaces David Allen, who left the university in December. Meyer will report to the vice president for research and graduate studies and is responsible for directing the staff and activities of the Technology Transfer Office and the Innovation Center Program.

"The new position looks like a great opportunity," Meyer said. "I've liked everyone and everything I've seen."

Meyer said he was attracted to the job because of Ohio University's "strategic direction," adding that the university's technological outlook for the future is "very positive."

Meyer comes to Ohio University from UneMed Corp. of Omaha, where he served as president and executive officer. UneMed Corp. is a separate, for-profit subsidiary structured to handle the University of Nebraska's Medical Center technology commercialization activities.

Meyer is a member of the Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) and the Licensing Executives Society. In recent years, he has spoken at the AUTM Regional Meeting and the Nebraska Business Development Center Regional Seminar.

He begins his new position on August 20.
