ATHENS, Ohio -- Provost Sharon S. Brehm said Monday that she will meet as soon as possible with faculty of the College of Education to discuss the process of selecting an interim dean, following an announcement by Education Dean H. Wells Singleton that he has accepted a new position with a Florida university.

"I will work closely with the interim dean and faculty in planning for a national search," Brehm said.

Singleton, 53, resigned effective Aug. 14. He said Monday he has accepted an appointment at Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as provost and dean for graduate education.

Singleton has been an Ohio University education dean since Aug. 1, 1990, when he succeeded Allen Myers. Prior to coming to Ohio University, Singleton was associate dean for teacher education at the University of Wyoming where he had been a member of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction since 1985 and had served as department chair and associate dean.

Singleton was a member of the education faculty at Toledo University from 1975 to 1984. He earned his Ph.D. in curriculum from Stanford University, an M.A. in American history from Southern Methodist University and a B.A. in social studies from the University of Wyoming.
