ATHENS, Ohio -- Randall W. Shelton, former director of food service at Georgetown College, Georgetown, Ky., has been appointed director of Ohio University Food Services, according to Robert Hynes, director of Residence and Campus Auxiliary Services.

"Randy brings a record of accomplishments and a set of professional skills and values that will serve the university well," Hynes said.

Shelton replaces Gene Reed, who retires August 31 after 34 years of service to the university.

Shelton graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in accounting. He is completing a master's degree in hotel and restaurant management at Oklahoma State, where he worked for 12 years at the university's food service. He also was Witchita State University's director of food services for five years.

Shelton will be responsible for all food services at Ohio University, including four dining halls, three snack bars, two convenience stores, a central warehouse and the Baker Center banquet and catering services.

Food Services employs 170 full-time staff and 600 student employees. With an annual budget exceeding $10 million, the department serves more than 3 million meals a year.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for me to take what Gene Reed has built during his tenure and move the department to the next level in line with Ohio University's educational mission,"

Shelton said. "Gene is leaving me with an outstanding staff."

Shelton is a member of the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS) and served on its National Strategic Planning Committee in 1996.
