ATHENS, Ohio -- Barbara Chapman, dean of Ohio University's College of Health and Human Services since 1991, has announced plans to leave the university for a new position as vice president for academic affairs at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich. Her resignation is effective Aug. 31.
"Barbara Chapman is one of the finest individuals I have ever had the pleasure to know and work with," said Ohio University Provost Sharon Brehm. "She has been a perfect dean: knowledgeable, consultative, creative, and always moving her college forward. I'm sure she will be an equally perfect vice president for academic affairs. We will all miss her very, very much at Ohio University."
Chapman joined Ohio University as dean of the College of Health and Human Services in 1991 from Trenton State University in New Jersey, where she was dean of the School of Nursing.
"It's with mixed emotions that I made the decision to leave Ohio University because it's been such a wonderful privilege for me to serve here as dean of the College of Health and Human Services," Chapman said. "But the challenge and opportunity of this new position at Ferris State is one that I feel I need to take advantage of at this point in my career."
Brehm said she expects to name an interim dean for the college this summer, with a national search for Chapman's successor to begin in the fall.
