ATHENS, Ohio -- Mary Alice Casey has joined the staff of Ohio University News Services and Periodicals as an assistant editor/writer.
Casey, who has 15 years of experience in the newspaper business, officially began work in her new position Jan. 12. She had served as a part-time copy editor/writer in the office since October.
Her duties include serving as assistant editor of Ohio University Today, the alumni publication, and Outlook, the faculty/staff tabloid, and editor ofOn Campus, the newsletter for parents of undergraduates. She also will write various news releases for the office and cover Honors Tutorial College, humanities and social sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences, University College and the College of Fine Arts.
"Mary Alice Casey brings the kind of news background, maturity and good editing skills that I know will serve Ohio University well as we meet the needs of our internal and external constituencies and increase our regional, national and international visibility," said Bryan McNulty, executive director of University News Services and Periodicals.
Casey worked for The Marietta Times for almost six years, serving first as city editor and then as news editor. Her past positions also have included managing editor, news editor and reporter at The Galion Inquirer, a daily newspaper in Central Ohio, and news bureau editor at Ashland University.
She earned a bachelor of science degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University in 1981. Casey and her husband, Mitch, have two children, Nathan, 9, and Erin, 7. The family lives in Marietta.
Casey replaces Emily Caldwell, who took a position as a public relations coordinator at Ohio State University in July.
