Editors, news directors: Reporters and photographers are welcome to attend an awards ceremony at noon Friday, Feb. 13, at which Ohio University Provost Sharon Brehm will recognize a dozen schools and departments for their outstanding assessment practices. The event recognizing 1996 and 1997 award winners will be conducted in the Baker Center Ballroom. The awards presentation is part of a daylong Ohio University Assessment Symposium featuring a keynote speech by Douglas Eder, director of undergraduate assessment and program review at Southern Illinois University, and a variety of workshops. Now in its third year, the assessment program provides grants to schools and departments for outstanding assessment programs. The university encourages units to develop assessment processes that are systematic, tied to the mission of the university and useful in improving the quality of academic programs.
