Editors, news directors:
In addition to the town meeting, reporters and editors are invited to Journalism Professor Michael Bugeja's ethics class from 2:10 to 3 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium, Scripps Hall, where a multimedia presentation on ethics will be followed by a presentation titled "Responsible Leadership" by Elaine Hairston, former chancellor of the Ohio Board of Regents, and a question-and-answer session with students. Hairston will be available for interviews after the class at 3 p.m. in the Scripps Hall conference room.

ATHENS, Ohio -- Former Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Elaine Hairston will be a panelist at a town meeting on the theme "Education's Role Today in Shaping Tomorrow's Students" from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at Athens City Hall, 8 E. Washington St.

Journalism Professor Michael Bugeja, special assistant to President Robert Glidden, organized the forum at Glidden's request.

"The goal is to talk about values and provide an opportunity for citizens of the university and community to interact meaningfully with each other," Bugeja said. "We hope to engage Elaine Hairston in substantive discussions about educational values as they relate to responsibility, fairness and civility."

The town meeting is free and open to the public.
