ATHENS, Ohio -- Representatives of AFSCME Local 1699 and Ohio University announced today that a tentative agreement was reached at 3:45 a.m. Friday, February 28 over a new contract covering more than 600 employees of the university.

"The parties bargained long and hard to reach an agreement that is fair to both sides. We think we reached that goal," said Terry Conry, assistant director of personnel and employee relations for Ohio University.

Charlie Adkins, president of Local 1699, said," We are pleased with the agreement we have made and we plan to recommend it to our members."

The local has scheduled a membership meeting to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 1, 1997 at Morton Math building.

The union will present the new agreement to its members at that time.
