ATHENS, Ohio -- Ohio University's third annual First-Year Student Parents' Weekend will be held Feb. 28 to March 2 on the Athens campus.
"We are continuing our efforts over the last two years in designating a special weekend for the parents of our first-year students," said Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students Joel Rudy. "By the time our incoming class attends the annual Precollege program in the summer, the parents of continuing students have reserved all of the available motel and hotel facilities in Southeast Ohio for our Parents' Weekend traditionally held during fall quarter."
Rudy said the university announced plans for this special weekend throughout last summer's Precollege Orientation, and that hotels and motels in the region are reporting strong activity for the weekend.
As part of the weekend's events, all first-year students and their families are invited to attend a reception from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. March 1 at the home of President Robert Glidden and his wife, Rene Glidden, at 29 Park Place. Refreshments will be served.
Students and their families also are encouraged to attend a variety of campus events, including the School of Theater's presentation of "Red Noses," the School of Dance's Winter Dance Concert, art exhibits at university and local galleries, the National PanHellenic Council's Nguza Saba & You Conference, the Ohio University women's basketball game and two ice hockey matches. Special $3 weekend guest passes also are available for the Ping Student Recreation Center.
In addition, the movie "Sleepers" will be screened at 8:30 p.m. March 1 at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Admission is $2.50.
