ATHENS, Ohio - - Ohio University and AFSCME Local 1699, Ohio Council 8, AFL-CIO, are currently negotiating a new labor agreement. The current three-year agreement expires March 1.
AFSCME negotiators have told their university counterparts that, in accordance with the requirements of Ohio's collective bargaining law, AFSCME has filed a 10-day notice of intent to strike on March 2 if a new agreement is not reached by midnight March 1.
"Negotiations are proceeding and an agreement is expected," said Terry Conry, assistant director of University Human Resources.
AFSCME Local 1699 represents about 600 service and maintenance workers at Ohio University.
