ATHENS, Ohio -- About 1,000 siblings will travel via chartered, chaperoned bus trips to Ohio University's Athens campus Friday (Feb. 14) for annual Siblings Weekend festivities.
Buses from Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Pittsburgh, Toledo and Youngstown will arrive at the Convocation Center between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Friday. The bus trips are sponsored by Ohio University alumni chapters in those cities. The buses will depart from the Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon.
Hypnotist Frederick Winters will perform an act mixing comedy and hypnosis at 9 p.m. Friday in Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. The show, which includes audience participation, is sponsored by the University Program Council (UPC). Tickets are $5 at the auditorium box office.
A Variety Show sponsored by the Black Student Cultural Programming Board (BSCPB) will take place at 8 p.m. Friday in Baker Center Ballroom. Admission is $5. A dance will follow at 10 p.m. Dance tickets are $3 before 11 p.m., $5 after 11, and free for those who attend the Variety Show.
Pingapalooza returns this year, with sporting events, carnival games and karaoke, on Friday from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Ping Student Recreation Center. The event is sponsored by the Division of Campus Recreation Special Events, Residence Life and Power Peers. Sibs admission is $3 and students are admitted free.
On Saturday, a Sibs Social will take place in the Baker Center Front Room at 2 p.m. Admission is $1. The Bobcat Roar, a pre-game pep rally for students and their siblings, will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the lower level lobby of the Convocation Center before the 4 p.m. men's basketball game against Miami. From 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., UPC will sponsor laser tag at Nelson Commons. Admission is $5. The Faces Modeling Show takes place at 5 p.m. in Baker Center Ballroom. Tickets are $3.
A BSCPB-sponsored concert featuring the groups 112, Foxy Brown and T-Elite will begin Saturday at 7 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Auditorium. General admission tickets are $13 in advance and $15 the day of the show. An after-show party featuring deejay Kid Capri will run from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. in Grover Center. Admission is $5 with a concert ticket stub or $8 without a stub.
The Residence Action Council will sponsor a Sibs Carnival and Casino night Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight in the Jefferson Hall Library. Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society is sponsoring a Sibs Skate Night from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Saturday at Bird Arena. Student admission is $2 plus the rental fee, and sibs will be admitted free plus the rental fee.
Also scheduled are ice hockey, wrestling, and the School of Theater's performance of "Measure for Measure." Call the Office of Student Activities at 614/593-4025 for more events information.
