ATHENS, Ohio -- Ken Fischer, a former assistant news director at the University of Florida's public TV station, has been named news director of Ohio University Public Radio and Television, including WOUB-TV and radio and regional affiliates.

Fischer heads the newsroom staff, overseeing news gathering and production of daily television and radio broadcasts. He also supervises students, who receive training in the public broadcasting newsroom, and serves as a part-time instructor at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.

"This is my fourth public broadcasting job and all of them have involved working with students," Fischer said. "It's an ideal situation where you get to work as a professional and remain involved in an academic setting."

As assistant news director of WUFT-TV in Gainesville, Fla., Fischer oversaw reporters and producers of daily newscasts and supervised broadcast journalism students, paid staff and volunteers.

Fischer has also worked as an instructor and production supervisor at New Mexico State University and as a videotape editor at Animation City Editorial Services, Burbank, Calif. A native of Orange, Calif., Fischer completed a B.A. in theater arts at California State University at Fullerton, and a master's in communications at Brigham Young University.
