ATHENS, Ohio -- An employee of Ohio University's Zanesville campus has been named International Secretary of the Year by Professional Secretaries International.
Christine L. Shaw is assistant to the director and training coordinator for Plant Services at the Zanesville campus, where she has worked since 1991. Formerly a senior secretary in Plant Services, she was promoted to her current position earlier this year. Shaw was a 1995 recipient of an Ohio University Outstanding Classified Employee Award and earned the title of certified professional secretary through a formal Professional Secretaries International process. She served as president of group's Zanesville chapter last year.
"I appreciate the opportunity this association gives to continually challenge yourself," Shaw said. "I also appreciate the opportunity to build friendships with others who hold high values for continuing education and professionalism."
The 40,000-member organization recently changed its name to International Association of Administrative Professionals to reflect the broad range of job titles and expanded responsibilities held by today's administrative support staff. The purpose of the group, which has 700 chapters worldwide, is to provide education, training, leadership development, publications and networking opportunities to members.
"I think the world of her," said OU-Zanesville Director of Operations James Heidler. "Once in awhile you have the opportunity to work with a truly exceptional individual. Chris, to me, is one of those individuals." He noted in particular Shaw's efficiency, work ethic and enthusiasm.
Shaw was named International Secretary of the Year after evaluation of an application she submitted at local, division, district and international levels.
