ATHENS, Ohio -- Rene Glidden of Athens has been appointed as a member of the Ohio Arts Council by Gov. George V. Voinovich for a term ending July 1, 2003. Glidden replaces Dora J. Wilson of Athens, an Ohio University professor of music whose term expired.

Glidden, wife of Ohio University President Robert Glidden, serves on the Ohio Humanities Council, the University Libraries' National Advisory Council and is a board member of the Dairy Barn. She has been a librarian, tutor and pottery teacher and belongs to the Athens Garden Club, the Percent for Art Committee, the Friends of the Kennedy Museum, the board of Community Design, Inc., and the Ohio University Women's Club.

Ohio Arts Council members are charged with the development of the arts in the state and the preservation of Ohio's cultural heritage.
