ATHENS, Ohio -- Four Ohio University students have won first-place awards in the regional Mark of Excellence competition of the Society of Professional Journalists.
Winners include Darin Painter and Meghan Farrell of the student newspaper The Post for editorial writing; Anne Lazear of WOUB for radio feature; and Sherriene Jones of WOUB-TV for television feature.
Results were announced April 4 at the SPJ Region 4 conference in Charleston, W.Va. Region 4 includes Ohio, West Virginia, Michigan and western Pennsylvania.
A requirement of the competition was that student work be aired or published in 1997.
The first-place winners will go on to compete nationally with winners from other regions, and the results will be announced at the SPJ national convention in Los Angeles in the fall.
