ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University School of Theater will stage productions of "Much Ado About Nothing" by William Shakespeare and "Strange Snow" by Steve Metcalfe this spring.
The theme for the entire season, which has included eight mainstage productions, is "The Peaceable Kingdom." As with previous productions, the final shows of the season will be set around war -- World War I for "Much Ado About Nothing" and the Vietnam War for "Strange Snow."
"Much Ado About Nothing," directed by Associate Professor of Theater David McClendon, is Shakespeare's romantic tale of the uniting of old friends and new lovers. The production previews at 8 p.m. May 6 and 7 and opens at 8 p.m. May 8. Other performances are at 8 p.m. May 9 and May 13-16, with a matinee at 2 p.m. May 16. All performances will be in the Forum Theater in the RTVC Building.
"Strange Snow," directed by graduate student James Bagnall, is the story of a romance between a spinster teacher and a Vietnam veteran. The production previews at 8 p.m. May 18 and 19 and opens at 8 p.m. May 20. Additional performances are at 8 p.m. May 21-23, with a matinee at 2 p.m. May 23. All performances will be in the Virginia Hahne Theater in Kantner Hall.
Tickets for both shows are $8 for adults and $6 for students and seniors. All tickets for preview performances cost $4. Tickets can be purchased at the Kantner Hall Box Office between 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays, or by calling (740) 593-4800. A ticket window will open one hour before curtain time in each theater. To purchase tickets by mail, call (740) 593-9355 to request a ticket order form. Mail requests should be received at least seven days before the performance date.
