Athens, OHIO -- In the 1970s, the Marching 110 became the hard-drivin', foot-stompin' band that Ohio University audiences applaud today. In celebration of nearly three decades of heart-pounding music, the Marching 110 has released its second CD in three years, "Thirty Years and Still Kickin' up Dust..."

The 158 members of the Marching 110 came up with CD's name and cover design, and they provide the musical talent for a selection of 30 traditional and new songs. The band is nationally known for its synchronized dance routines, unique marching style and spirited sound.

"Hopefully we captured some of the excitement we generate Saturday afternoons at football games, and people who purchase the CD can take that excitement with them," says Ricky Suk, the 110s' director for the past two years.

Suk says the band now plans to release a CD every other year featuring old favorites like "Long Train Runnin'" by the Doobie Brothers, "Light Up" by Styx, and "Alma Mater, Ohio," plus new selections. "Thirty Years and Still Kickin' up Dust..." contains 23 new selections.

Ten of the CD's selections were recorded at the marching band's annual concert at the Ohio Theatre in Columbus Nov. 11, and the other 20 were taped in a recording session Nov. 17 in Forum Theater in Kantner Hall on campus.

Dave Palmer, part owner and president of Athens radio stations WATH-AM and WXTQ-FM, was executive producer of the CD and Ohio University Assistant Professor of Telecommunications Jeff Redefer was producer and engineer. The University Relations Division provided seed money for the project.

Suk says he anticipates the sale of at least 3,000 copies, generating a profit of $10,000 over the next two or three years to be used for the band's travel expenses. The CD can be purchased for $12.95 at uptown area bookstores, including College Bookstore, Follett's University Bookstore, Little Professor and Specialty Books. They also are available by mail by sending a check for $14 to Marching Band CD, 497D School of Music Building, Ohio University, Athens 45701. Mail orders include $2 for shipping and handling.
