Administrative responsibilities
Dean, College of Fine Arts, Ohio University:Begins July 1, 1998.
Director, School of Music, University of Northern Iowa (1993-present): The school has eight divisions and more than 40 full- and part-time faculty members. During Tymas-Jones' tenure as director, the school has received approval for three new degrees: a bachelor of music in composition, master of music in jazz pedagogy and master of music in piano performance and pedagogy. He also was instrumental in raising funds for a new School of Music classroom building/performing arts center, an endowed professorship and several endowed scholarships.
Associate Dean/Assistant to the Dean of Arts and Humanities at Buffalo State College (1990-93): As associate dean, Tymas-Jones served as the primary adviser to the dean on issues of faculty, curriculum, facilities and technology for Arts and Humanities, which included nine departments and more than 200 full- and part-time faculty. As assistant to the dean, he supervised the completion of program reviews for the departments of design, fine arts, foreign language and English; served as a liaison with the physical plant in the development of a capital improvement project for instructional facilities; and handled other responsibilities.
