Editors, news directors: The sixth annual Student Achievement in Research and Scholarship (STARS) statewide conference at Ohio University this weekend presents a photo and/or story opportunity for local newspapers and television stations. The conference will be held for the first time ever at Ohio University April 3-5. Sponsored by the Ohio Board of Regents, STARS provides a faculty mentoring program for academically successful minority undergraduates who are preparing for graduate school. STARS has about 175 sophomore, junior and senior participants who represent 21 public and private universities and colleges across Ohio. Conference organizers expect about 150 students, mentors and coordinators to attend the conference, at which about 65 students will present research projects Saturday morning and afternoon. Several projects -- on such topics as women and filmmaking, radon gas testing, using the Internet -- will be presented simultaneously in Stocker Center on the Athens campus from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.; 1:45 to 3:30 p.m.; and 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. Photographers and reporters are welcome to visit any of the presentations. You should have received a press release and full schedule via fax from Dan Williams on Monday.
