ATHENS, Ohio -- Glenn Corlett, an Ohio University alumnus and management consultant from Chagrin Falls, Ohio, has been named dean of the College of Business at Ohio University. He will take the post July 1.

Corlett, 52, was one of four candidates invited for interviews on the Athens campus for the position after a national search. He replaces John Stinson, who has served as interim dean since July.

"I am absolutely delighted that Glenn Corlett has accepted our offer of appointment to the deanship of the College of Business," Ohio University President Robert Glidden said. "As an alum, Glenn has an immense understanding of Ohio University's accomplishments, goals and opportunities. More than that, however, he brings the rich experience of a very successful career in business, the confidence of our alumni and friends of the college, and a great deal of enthusiasm about the future of the university and the college."

Corlett, a Certified Public Accountant, was executive vice president and chief operating officer for N.W. Ayer & Partners, an international advertising agency, from 1993 to 1996, and chief financial officer of the company from 1990 to 1995. At Ayer, Corlett supervised media planning and buying, print production, advanced technologies and event marketing subsidiaries. As chief financial officer, he was responsible for all accounting and treasury functions of the company and its foreign and domestic subsidiaries.

"Glenn Corlett will be an outstanding dean. His drive, creativity and vision will ensure that the College of Business will be able to realize its full potential for excellence. I look forward to working with him on many exciting projects," Provost Sharon Brehm said.

"I have always had a love for Ohio University and for higher education in general, predicated on the great experience I had in Athens as an undergraduate," Corlett said. "It's always stayed with me and is part of the reason I've been involved with the university since I graduated. I hope to deliver the same quality experience to the students today that I had as a student."

Corlett said his extensive background in business will be an asset to the college.

"The external relationships with the business community, prospective employers and alumni give me a different perspective," Corlett said. "I believe a business background allows me to relate to all of the constituencies."

Corlett also has a long history with Price Waterhouse, where he was partner-in-charge for mergers and acquisitions in New York from 1988 to 1990; tax partner-in-charge in Denver from 1984 to 1988 and in Cleveland from 1979 to 1984; and held partner and staff positions from 1971 to 1979.

Corlett earned a bachelor's degree in business administration at Ohio University in 1965 and a J.D. from Ohio State University in 1968. He was an accounting instructor at Jacksonville University from 1969 to 1970.

His affiliations include the New York Venture Capital Association, the Society of International Development and the American Association of Advertising Agencies. He serves on the boards of Pubco Corp., the Cable Roadblock Network Inc. and Performance Concepts Inc.

Corlett also has been involved in Ohio University alumni activities at the university for a number of years. He was a member of the National Alumni Board of Directors from 1978 to 1986, serving as president from 1982 to 1984, and was an Ohio University Foundation trustee from 1985 to 1994. He received the Medal of Merit Award from the Alumni Association in 1991.
