THE POST NAMED TOP CAMPUS DAILY IN REGION BY SPJ

ATHENS, Ohio -- The Post, the independent student newspaper at Ohio University, Saturday (April 19) was named best all-around daily newspaper in the Society of Professional Journalists' Region 4 Mark of Excellence Awards for college journalists.

The awards were announced at SPJ's regional conference in Columbus. The contest covers campuses in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia and Western Pennsylvania.

Ohio University student journalists won first places in four other categories, and Southeast Ohio, the student-produced, quarterly magazine at the university, took second place in the best magazine category for those produced more than once a year. First place went to The Burr at Kent State University.

The Post beat out The Lantern at Ohio State for top honors for daily newspapers.

Ohio University journalists winning first-place awards included Michael Redding, Meghan Farrell and Jessica Johnson of The Post for editorial writing, Mike Kepka in the sports news and sports photography divisions, and Jeremy Wadsworth in the feature photography division. Wadsworth also took second place in sports photography.
