ATHENS, Ohio--"Student Judiciaries will review the police reports of the Athens Police Department and make a determination of what university discipline should be taken in addition to whatever legal action has already been initiated by the city. In the case of serious criminal charges, both suspension and expulsion are possible outcomes of the student judiciary process.
"In the case of the reported fight involving as many as 30 members of two fraternities, one should note that there are several hundred fraternity members in these two chapters, and there is no previous record of fighting between these fraternities. Student Judiciaries will look first at individual responsibility and make a determination about appropriate discipline. Then, in consultation with the Chair of the Greek Life Committee, the Director of Student Activities and President of the Student Senate, we will determine if disciplinary charges should be brought against the fraternities as well as individuals. If groups are found guilty of violations of the student code of conduct, sanctions may range from reprimand through suspension or expulsion of the organization from university recognition."
