ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio University History Department will host its annual Costa Lecture with guest lecturer Gerhard Weinberg speaking on "World War II in Postwar Politics" in Room 194 of Irvine Hall at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 22.
The William Rand Kenan Jr. Professor of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Weinberg is an authority on the history of World War II-era Germany and has worked on several war documentation projects. Awards for his books include the George Louis Beer Prize, the Halverson Prize of the German Studies Association, the Distinguished Book Award of the Society for Military History and the 1994 Herbert Hoover Book Award. Weinberg has served as vice president for research of the American Historical Association, as a consultant to the committee on war documents of the American Historical Association and as president of the World War II Studies Association.
Sponsored by the History Department and the late benefactress Helen Coast Hayes, Ohio University Class of 1929, the Costa Lecture brings a distinguished historian to campus each year. The lectures are free and open to the public.
