ATHENS, Ohio (August 30, 2000) -- Ohio University alumnus Charles Stuckey, chairman of RSA Security Inc. and president of RSA Capital, has donated $300,000 to his alma mater to establish a professorship.
The Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Marilyn Stuckey Jr. Professorship will be awarded to a member of the computer science faculty in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, an academic unit in the Russ College of Engineering and Technology. The recipient will have a major teaching and research focus in the areas of information and network security.
"This generous gift will help to ensure that present and future Ohio University students receive the same high-quality education as Mr. Stuckey did," said Dr. Dennis Irwin, chair of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. "The endowed professorship will allow the Russ College to both acknowledge and reward a deserving professor for his or her teaching and scholarly achievements. It also will assist us in retaining our best professors at Ohio University."
Under Stuckey's leadership, RSA grew from 18 employees in 1987 to more than 1,000 employees today and is ranked among the top 100 software companies in the world. RSA, a leader in e-security, has more than 6,000 customers worldwide in the areas of banking, government, telecommunications, aerospace industry, higher education and health care. RSA is based in Bedford, Mass., and has offices in the United States and nine international locations.
Stuckey, a native of Lancaster, is on the board of directors of two public companies, RSA Security Inc. and MatrixOne. He is director and vice chairman of the Massachusetts Telecommunications Council and a member of the Strategic Planning Committee for the Russ College Board of Visitors.
He has more than 30 years of experience in general management and sales technology. Upon his graduation in 1966 with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio University, Stuckey worked for IBM in various sales positions and Control Data Corp. in middle and senior management positions.
Stuckey was inducted into the Russ College Academy of Distinguished Graduates in April. He and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Carlisle, Mass., and have one daughter, Sherrie.
