Ohio Field Hockey Duo Selected for
Olympic Development Camp
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (August 24, 2000) -- A pair of Ohio field hockey players were recently
selected to compete in the upcoming Olympic Development Camp. Sophomore defender Lauren
Mazziotto (Sewell, N.J.) and goalkeeper Michelle Hinman (Weedsport, N.Y.), who graduated this past
spring, were selected to attend the United States Olympic Development "A" Camp in December.
Both players were tabbed for the "A" Camp after participating in the "B" Camp earlier this
summer. The upcoming camp will be a week-long training and evaluation camp which is often used
to select U.S. National Team talent. Gail Hudson was the last Bobcat to receive such an
invitation, doing so in 1981.
Mazziotto, a second-team All-MAC honoree, is vying to earn a spot on the US Under-21 Junior
National Team that will play in the Junior World Cup next spring in Argentina. She hopes to
become the second Bobcat to represent Ohio at the World Cup. Teammate Ali Johnstone (Delta, British
Columbia) plays for the Canadian Junior National Team.
Hinman, a first-team All-MAC and Regional All-American, hopes to gain applicable experience
by attending the camp in her attempt to join the National Team. A newly hired assistant coach at
Northwestern University, she just missed the World Cup this past spring.
