Julio Freire Named Assistant Athletic Director

ATHENS, Ohio (August 21, 2000) -- Ohio Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh recently announced the hiring of Julio Freire as the department's assistant director of athletics for facilities and operations. He replaces Tracy White who recently resigned to pursue other opportunities.
Freire joins the Bobcat program from the Tempe, Arizona, Board of Education, where he served as assistant principal for athletics at Tempe High School. His responsibilities there centered on the supervision and administration of all athletics programs, including hiring coaching staff, scheduling and budgeting.
A teacher and counselor at Brophy College Preparatory School from 1991-97, Freire moved to the administrative ranks in 1998 as an assistant principal at Creighton Elementary. He was named athletics director at the school for the 1998-99 calendar year.
Freire, 33, was a cross country and track letterman at Arizona State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1990. He added a master's degree in counseling from the University of Phoenix in 1997 and an administrative teaching certificate from UP in 1998.
